A Ceremony of Self

~ how I work with solstices (and equinoxes) ~

On June 21 at 1:24am Pacific Time, the sun will reach its yearly zenith.

Welcome to the Summer Solstice.

The longest day of the year. The perfect day for a ceremony.

Solstice means the sun stands still, literally.

(“Solstice” comes from Latin, “solstitium,” which translates to “sun standing still.”)

So for one breath, the light holds at its peak before beginning to retreat once again.

‘Tis a breath to embrace the truth of who you are.

A breath to drop into your intuition.

A breath to check your orientation.

To step into the power you carry.

To honour how far you’ve come.

To choose who you will become.

I spent the past 18 months releasing everything that no longer served me, sketching a new vision for my life and who I am, and integrating the version of me that makes turning that vision into reality possible. I’m deeply, quietly proud of this regeneration.

Those months were like living a trust fall in glacial slow motion.

I made some insane choices in service of achieving alignment.

I had experiences that rewove my understanding of life and reality itself.

I committed to my body’s truth, even when my mind screamed otherwise.

Above all else, I chose with great care and intention who I’m becoming.

I designed not an objectively perfect human, for none of us are—but the perfect version of me. A version that I love deeply, and am thrilled to experience life through.

You have this ability too.

So let this solstice be not an astrological event, but cause for a ceremony of self.

One where you recognize what you need to release, and what’s truly yours to keep.

With love from the forest,

~ Alexander
