A Fortune of Three Parts
~ synchronistic omens from piercing receipts and fortune cookies ~
From my birthday weekend in Vancouver, I brought home a fortune of three of parts:
The first and most obvious fortune is “at this very moment you can change the rest of your life.” A fitting fortune indeed, given the conversation Alicia and I had on the Saturday evening while in the depths of the psychedelic realm.
As with many of life’s deepest truths, the answers we often seek are simple in nature, but rarely easy to execute—and changing the rest of your life is no exception. Given I’ve been embroiled in a personal search to change some of life’s larger facets, this fortune was a potent reminder that no matter how big, scary, or difficult the adventure ahead may feel, in truth, my way forward is a simple one:
Make aligned decisions that are exciting, then take relentless action.
The second and most fitting fortune is “you have a flair for adding a fanciful dimension to any story.” For which I present the recent evidence of one of the Whimsies I’ve most enjoyed writing, The Perfect Morning with Yuki Grace Beans.
This fortune hammered home the fact that something to do with writing is a key part of my way forward. For more fancy and whimsy in the world is nary a bad thing.
The third and most self-aggrandizing fortune is “you express yourself with charm and humour.” Biased as she may be, Alicia confirmed my suspicions of truth in this matter with a smile and a nod. Even if Alicia’s bias overrides objective truth, at the very least, infusing self-expression with more charm and humour is a worthy target.
Which is relevant because I’m firm on entertainment being a core piece of my next project—to which charm and humour are useful, precious assets. Having spent so much of my 9 years (so far) of entrepreneurship coaching, teaching, and marketing, offering entertainment feels like a welcome relief and a breath of fresh air.
And so comes to an end, this fortune of three parts—a series of unexpected gifts courtesy of my go-to piercing parlour and our favoured dumpling restaurant.
With love from the forest,
~ Alexander
