Are Those Stars In Your Eyes?

~ a dream worth remembering ~

Over the past year, I’ve been working with the dreamworld.

I pay attention to what unfolds while I sleep. I trust what I feel when I wake.

———

I was at a rave that wasn't my beloved dubstep, but a blend of house and techno.

I’d gone with people I knew, but weren't really my people. They were all doing cocaine, which is a drug I’ve never tried and never had any interest in.

I couldn't get into the music.

Nor did I feel like being around a group of people on coke (if you know, you know).

So I removed myself and went to hang in the venue’s lobby. Somehow I procured myself a glass of wine and was lounging, sipping, flipping about on my phone.

On the outer rim of my awareness, this group of women came into the seating area. I didn't pay much attention to them—but then I had that feeling of being watched.

I looked up, and to my surprise, one of the women had separated from her group and closed the distance to me.

Our surroundings faded.

We became a world of two.

My perspective warped like we were both inside of a fish-eye lens.

With long, dark, tumbling, curly hair framing big, deep eyes, she looked into the core of me and without pausing said, "Are those stars in your eyes, or just stickers?"

I was immediately flustered, couldn't remember if I was wearing those star-studded decals people put around their eyes for raves, and mumbled something about getting them from 7-11. I still don’t know if I was actually wearing them.

I can still remember, and feel, her piercing gaze.

'Twas the exact kind of unexpected, sideways, poetic moment I’m feeling towards.

With love from the forest,
