I've Got A Crush On Beauty

~ lemme spill the tea ~

I’ve always had a soft spot for beauty.

The stars would say it's a Libra thing.

Regardless of astrological inclination, who am I to argue with the truth? I find beauty deeply comforting and soothing, exciting and inspiring, arousing and satisfying.

Which has made for an utterly wonderful homecoming week-and-a-bit, as I’ve sunk into what feels like a long overdue phase of beautifying my physical environment, of pouring love into the space I inhabit and spend so much time in.

I’ve let go of books, furniture, and trinkets I no longer feel are mine.

I’ve brought in a fresh haul of my favourite sensory delights: incense, soap, and a diffuser whose scent is inspired by the tiny island I grew up on.

I’ve retired all the towels and blankets I somehow ended up with over the years, replaced with chosen-because-I-love-them ones… and I cannot wait for their arrival.

Clothes I haven’t reached for in ages are being donated, tossed, or given new roles.

Plants long in need of room to grow are being up-potted, pruned, fed, and cleaned.

I finally bought the salt lamp I’ve wanted for, like, at least eight years.

From top to bottom, I’ve been purging, cleaning, and making the cabin more mine, which has felt really good in itself. But the double whammy of making the cabin more mine while emphasizing and prioritizing beauty…

That’s felt really, really fucking good too.

Sadly, beauty has been dying a slow death in our culture for decades.

Bright colours replaced with monochrome.

Intricate designs swapped for minimalist logos.

Craftsmanship traded for production.

That’s not a world I want to live in.

Give me character and uniqueness and boldness please and thanks.

Beauty, at least for me, is not merely an aesthetic preference.

Beauty is the lens where the world flares to glorious, blazing life.

With love from the cabin,

~ Alexander
