For Copywriters: A Bonus Whimsie

I have copywriting to thank for much of the goodness I’ve enjoyed since 2016:

The whimsical adventures to sip espresso in foreign lands… The nights spent dancing into the wee hours of the morning… The freedom to wake up on my own time… The car I yearned for as a teenager… The Pokémon-inspired tattoos…

I was drawn to copywriting by the promise of earning an income from writing, one of my favourite things in the world. I found the thought of working from cafes and the comfort of own my home simply intoxicating—so I began learning the craft.

Much to my delight, learning copywriting was relatively easy.

I took a few courses, armed myself with proven structures and templates, read books on persuasion and buyer psychology, and I was off to the races. In the years that followed, I honed my skills further in a few private mentorships with established writers who I respected, along with taking more in-depth and nuanced courses.

Finding clients was the toughest aspect, but between tapping my existing network, using a hyper-personalised cold outreach method I developed, and enlisting the support of experienced (and busy) copywriters, I was able to overcome that hurdle.

(You see, the real ‘secret’ to finding copywriting clients in our capitalist world is recognising that people who can help businesses generate more sales are always in demand—and many businesses will happily pay you handsomely for the help.)

After plying my trade as a freelance copywriter for few years, my journey took an unexpected turn in August 2020 when one of my early copywriting mentors, Mike Samuels, honoured me by asking if I’d come onboard as coach in his copywriting mentorship program, Freedom Kickstarter Pro (FKSP).

Coaching in FKSP quickly became one of my favourite aspects of my work day, as I was given a platform to help other writers build their business and their life through copywriting—a skill I value and treasure greatly, and owe dearly.

In this time, myself, Mike, and his business partner Jamie Lynch have mentored over 160 aspiring and existing copywriters from all walks of life to the freedom they craved.

(We’ve also helped a fair few business owners who wanted to improve their own copy chops do exactly that—and thus enjoy running a more successful business.)
