Introducing: Throttle & Tread

~ your doorway into the wacky world of Formula 1 ~

There was a flash of blue and white hurtling down the track, V10 engine roaring, brakes glowing red-hot, and at the wheel—a relentless, fearless competitor…

Juan Pablo Montoya.

I was but a child, yet Montoya’s daring driving had me on the edge of my seat.

Here was this swashbuckling young Colombian, undeterred by the living legend of Michael Schumacher, the driver every racer feared and respected in equal measure.

Montoya showed up on the grid out of nowhere…

Then proceeded to fill Schumacher’s mirrors, ride his gearbox with glee, and barge his way by with aplomb—making Michael’s life miserable, daring him to defend his crown.

I was captivated.

Even so, after moving away from where my uncle lived when I was 10—who is responsible for introducing me to Formula 1—I fell away from the sport for 17 years.

Then 2020 happened. Thanks to ye olde ‘rona lockdown-induced boredom and Netflix’s hit series Drive to Survive bringing the sport back into my awareness, I eagerly reentered the F1 world, discovering that my captivation had only deepened.

In the 17 years that passed, Formula 1 and I had both changed, but the sense of awe-njoyment I felt watching these cars roar through twisting circuits never faded.

There’s this breathless magic in watching the best drivers in the world push the boundaries of their otherworldly abilities, in a contest of skill with no margin for error.

Watching today’s top drivers—veterans like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, or the young guns like Oscar Piastri and Ollie Bearman—brings me back to that wide-eyed kid I once was, glued to the screen, holding my breath at every turn.

To me, Formula 1 transcends sport—a continuous, fast-paced story, unfolding race by race, decade by decade, each season and generation building upon the last.

As I returned to the world of Formula 1, I began mining my brain for the right F1-related project to sink my teeth into. Thanks to a flash of inspiration during 2024’s summer break, that’s how my Last Week in Formula 1 Recaps came to be.

Then 3 months after Last Week in Formula 1 came to life, in another flash of inspiration, the idea of writing about the wacky world of F1 evolved further.

I knew I wanted to write about F1 beyond simply recapping the latest stories…

I knew I wanted to bring fellow racing fans together in a new way…

And so my vision transformed into something greater…

The result being…

Throttle & Tread is your digital dose of Formula 1, bringing you:

  • Race Track Rundowns (pre-race breakdowns of each circuit’s quirks, challenges, and historical highlights).

  • Last Week in Formula 1 (weekly, somewhat comedic recaps of everything that happened last week in the F1 world—from the pit lane to the paddock).

  • The Throttle & Tread Racing Club (a yearly fantasy pool for fun—and profit, if you’re just the right combo of skillful, clairvoyant, and lucky).

  • And the promise to always be developing and testing new ideas.

In a nutshell:

Throttle & Tread is your pit stop for F1’s top tales, unexpected turns, and trackside whispers—where speed, strategy, and mischief come in one polished package.

So, whether you’re already into the heart-pounding, turbocharged world of F1…

Or you’re curious enough to check out what happens on track…

Who knows? Maybe you’ll find yourself on the edge of your seat too.

With love from the forest,

~ Alexander
